The Saudi Contractors Authority and the Project Management Institute's Saudi Arabia Chapter held a meeting on the future of project management in the Kingdom on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

The guest speaker was Eng. Badr bin Mohammed Burshaid, Chairman of the Chapter. He explained its work to promote professional project management through high-quality programs tailored to members' needs, training for local professionals, and support for professional certifications.

The Chapter aims to be a leading professional body supporting project management in Saudi Arabia. Its mission is to develop the profession across the Kingdom, spread project management practices, and provide the knowledge and tools needed to excel.

Participants discussed the future of project management, including quality and maturity compared with similar countries. The Kingdom's large project pipeline offers an opportunity to become a global model of excellence and a regional hub for project management.

The Chapter's plans include preparing the next generation of project leaders through international best practices. They also include combining knowledge with project management programs and building regional partnerships with private, government, academic and nonprofit organizations.

Burshaid outlined the foundations of a successful project management office: identifying needs, granting suitable authority, providing professional resources, and using modern technology.

He also stressed the importance of risk management in responding to crises. Identifying risks early can help prevent or reduce their impact on projects, as demonstrated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting concluded with questions from attendees. SCA said further meetings with the Chapter would continue the discussion on project management and its importance.
