SCA Secretary-General Eng. Thabet bin Mubarak Al-Suwaid opened the High-Rise Projects Forum yesterday evening. The two-day event takes place on December 4–5, 2019, at the Fairmont Riyadh.
In his opening address, Al-Suwaid highlighted the forum's role in bringing regional stakeholders and international providers together to examine good and poor practices in designing and constructing high-rise buildings.
The event presents building solutions, innovations and equipment for delivering major projects to defined schedules. It covers the process from design to execution, including practical training and actionable plans.
Discussions also address Saudi population growth and urban expansion, which increase demand for high-rise buildings, and efforts to raise real estate's contribution to GDP from 5% to 10% by 2030.
Construction contracts were valued at USD 44.1 billion by the end of 2019. Participants will discuss opportunities following SCA's establishment, market mergers and acquisitions, and the repositioning and accelerated delivery of key projects to meet community needs.
More than 75 high-rise buildings and skyscrapers are at different construction stages in the Kingdom.
The first day attracted more than 30 regional and international sponsors and over 300 delegates.
Great Minds Group Conference Director Arvind Sekhar said strong participation showed the industry's interest in modern cities and sustainable communities. He said regulatory commitment and the expertise shared at the forum pointed to a bright future for Saudi high-rise construction.
